About Anna-Helena
Anna-Helena is a mezzo-soprano from Westmeath, Ireland. She is currently an Emerging Artist with Mascarade Opera in Firenze, Italy.
She graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2023 with a First Class Honours Bachelors Degree. While there she studied with Mary Brennan, Dearbhla Collins and the late Grainne Dunne.
She went on to study on the Opera Course at the Royal Academy of Music in London. While there she studied with Susan Waters, Jonathan Papp and Ingrid Surgenor.
She has performed roles such as Isabella (L’Italiana in Algeri), Hansel (Hansel und Gretel) and Marchesa Melibea (Il Viaggio a Riems), working with companies such as Rossini Opera Festival, Wexford Festival Opera and Opera Collective Ireland.
As well as opera, Anna-Helena is also deeply passionate about oratorio, and has had the privilege of performing alto soloist in works such as Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Beethoven’s Mass in C, Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo and Karl Jenkin’s The Armed Man. She has worked with choral societies such as South Bucks Choral Society, Bray Choral Society, Eastbourne Choral Society and Wexford Festival Singers.
Anna-Helena also has a keen interest in song. While studying at RIAM, she was part of Iain Burnside song project ‘Open your eyes and tell me what you see’, which went on to be a European tour, performing in Dublin, London, Paris and Salzburg. More recently Anna-Helena has performed in recitals such as ‘The English Songbook: Haydn and Handel’ and ‘Yeats in Music', both with Blackwater Valley Opera Festival.
Awards during her time at RAM included the Knights of the Round Table Award and the Charles MacKerras Scholarship. While studying at RIAM, she attained the Irene Sandford Award and the Young Opera Voice Award at Navan Festival. She is also a recipient of both the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival Bursary and the Veronica Dunne Bursary for Young Irish Singers.
